S.U.B. Podcast #03 Interview with Gameover (Mk)

Within the holidays spirit in this weeks podcast you can hear the mix by Game Over. He works as a dj/producer in Skopje. Started with a hip-hop group called “RHB“, had a dubplate released by Aphrodite, founded Tech Squad ( local d&b crew), was a part of local radio shows “Tecna Kujna“ and “Drum Time“ and he was involved in a urban culture magazine “Filter“. He released couple of EP’s, remixes, played in most of the clubs in Macedonia and neighboring countries. A real A-Lister and good technician. His style is described like “drum and bass with techno, hip-hop and soulful influences”. He also spins dubstep, hip-hop, funk.. never to settle down for just one music style.

How’s it going?  Did you like 2012, the end of the world and "how would you go further”?

- 2012 was a real roller coster for me, both on personal and professional level. A whole lot of new experiences. Shame the world didn't end, now we all have to face the reality. Maybe some big asteroid will help us all soon. About the future, just go with the flow :)

There is a saying you use a lot, roughly translated to: “Peace on Earth, bread for everyone”. So how are you views on the crops for the 2013, what will this mysterious number bring us?

- Sadly there is neither peace on earth nor bread for everyone. Heaven and hell, the balance of the universe, bla bla bla. Never been quite the philosopher. 2013 will bring nothing, we have to bring it ourselves. 2013 is just a number, just like our age.

Ten years as dj, what are the good and the bad things about it?

- Actually, twelve. There aren't any bad things. Maybe the dj stereotypes, but that is inevitable I guess..

Over ten years the urban genres such as hip-hop, drum and bass, nowadays dubstep, have been overthrown by the population, even from the "underground" circles. However there are people, dj's, producers, even radio host that are trying to keep that sub cultural movements going and growing.  Where does drum and bass and the rest of those neglected genres belong?

- Somewhere in the middle. You can't pin them down on either side of the spectrum. It has been tried before, but as DJ Primer said: "Underground will live forever baby, we just like roaches, never dying, always living."

Hip hop went into pop culture here in Macedonia. Are the rappers still in crisis?

- The rappers will always be in crisis. When you stop being in crisis, you are not a rapper anymore. Simple as that.

Most of us are aware of the shitty system we are living in, how do you manage in it as a dj and what are your aspirations for the future.

- I'm doing what I love. And I'm doing it the best way I know. I know it's a cliche, but if you are good at what you do, everyone will realise and appreciate it.

Why do you love dnb, and the rest of the urban music, is pop music wrong?

- I love it cause of it's complexity and simplicity. It can give you what pop music can't. At least today's pop. I guess I was raised listening to so much different quality music, it all had to culminate with dnb, along with breaks, dubstep and whatnot.

If you buy a pound of nuts, how much will it cost you?

- I would probably get it for free, cause of the face pass I got :D

Enjoy the mix ! it's not exactly what I would play in a club. Maybe in a small bar on a cold winter's day :)

THAT'LL BE 4 BUCKS BABY! YOU WANT FRIES WITH THAT!?!?
