S.U.B. Podcast #26 DubWalkers (Serbia)

SUB: Dub Walkers please introduce yourself. Who is behind this music project, and how did it start?

DW: Hello ! We are two mates from same neighbourhood in Belgrade, Vlado (kicbea) and Nemanja (shonze) who developed the similar taste for certain kind of music genres that are heavily impacted by elements of dub/roots culture. The project started spontaneously with the idea of recording a dub techno mix, just for the taste of it, as a break from the standard dnb mixing we did for Don’t look Back show on nofm.rs internet radio since 2011. As a part of nofm.rs collective, alongside neighbour/colleague Manovski, we started a dubtechno/techno club night called ‘dubine’. So we ended up with creating an alias ‘DubWalkers’ as an output to everything that has its musical base in original dub sound.

SUB: Both Of you are into drum and bass / jungle sounds, why the sudden change?

DW: The engagement in dnb/ jungle is somehow official with the weekly shows on nofm.rs and jungletrain.net and record label we recently started. So we don’t see it as a change, more like the need to be more active and involved in different kind of music we are also interested in.

SUB: Future plans with this project?

DW: In the near future we’ll be focused on organizing ‘dubine’ club night and playing on them, as well as occasionally recording mixes. We are working on our own production and having thoughts on releasing it later on a sub-label, but that’s more like a loose plan ..

Sub: You are also co-founders of the independent label Reminiscence Audio, how did you started the whole thing, and how is it going by now?

DW: The label was created in 2011 by the two of us and Ivan Gogoski (Breaksta). The idea behind Reminiscance Audio is to spread a certain atmospheric approach to the production by connecting the work of specific artists into properly arranged set of releases. Upcoming music is by artists at the forefront of current atmospheric jungle scene. Highly respected producers including Terminus, Fushara, Dave Hoax and Jason oS/Daat all have forthcoming tracks on Reminiscence Audio. A retro series is also planned with music by 2D33P (Legendary DJ Trace and ground breaking producer Voyager aka Pete Parsons), Scape, Kid Lib, Tim Reaper and Dwarde amongst more globally recognised architects and pioneers of sound. Watch out for Terminus – Perspectives EP & Fushara – Alpine Descent EP

SUB: Is it tough to run an independent label?

DW: RUFF AND TUFF, MON ! :D :D :D Joke aside, the great deal of work is done through e-mails and other sorts of virtual communication, as well as online scheduling releases so basicly it’s mostly sitting in front of a laptop.

SUB: Do you have your own production ongoing?

DW: Not on regular basis and without any strict plans. At the moment it’s more like playing with the sound and experimenting the depth of it.

SUB: Is all the trouble worth it? Why do you love DNB?

DW: On a personal level it is, because it’s more than satisfying when you are able to do the stuff you love . We connect with people globaly through dnb as a music medium. And we are all bound by the powerfull sounds of cutting breaks and deep bass.

S.U.B. Podcast #26 The BassMighty Kreatorz (Tetovo/Macedonia)

SUB ::: How did you start working together, tell us about the time before the BassMighty Kreatorz.

  -  First of all, thanks for the invite for guest mix from us, we were more than satisfied to do that for you. Me and Nikola ( MC Sam, ½ from TBMK’z) know eachother for quite long time. Hip hop connected us, worked some music together, we both showed interest in music production so we started working on some hip hop projects, since the end of the hip hop golden era in Tetovo. After that I started to show interest in drum and bass and Nikola in dubstep. First we worked separately, and than I got an idea of working together as a production duo for Drum and Bass and Dubstep music. January 2011 was the time that we started to work, until now and still moving on.

SUB ::: Do you have any of your production released?

  -  In the field of releasing music, we had a couple singles released, one of them unfortunately for non-existing label anymore, and one for Dirt Lies and Audio Black Records. We didn’t pay very much attention to releasing, until we find the correct sound and right way of production the music we love. Now we are trespassing some boundaries of music production, and finally we think that we have the correct choice of DAW’s and other sources.

SUB ::: Any new releases, as a bassmighy or solo acts?

  - Hopefully, until mid-August this year we plan to release all the stuff that we have done before, and it is unreleased, and some new stuff that we are working on. Still don’t know precise about labeling and all that stuff, but we’ll probably go for the best option. Also we’ll work on our DJ sets from now on, since from this one we saw that people are interested in MC-ing also, we’ll go and work on our DJ+MC set. About solo acts, MC Sam is working on solo tunes, as Sam, hip hop and fusion combinations, but about drum and bass and dubstep, we’ll always go as The BassMighty Kreatorz.

SUB ::: How does the urban music have its effect on Tetovo. Does the youth from Tetovo accept your sound or sound of similar crews?

   - Hmmm, I have so much to say about this, but let’s not open old wounds and start this conversation. I can only say that people that like this kind of music support us and are following us. I’m not disappointed from the fans of this kind of music at all, I can only say, that we’ll try to figure something out for better acceptance.

SUB ::: Anything you want to add?

- I want to thank Skopje Urban Beats for this opportunity for promoting our style and music, I hope that people will like it. Also big thanks to NZS Production from Tetovo, for recording the vocal part of this mix, big thanks to my man Enko. Soon you can expect new music from The BassMighty Kreatorz, until than … ;) (Y)
